KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — Following the dramatic political developments in the country the past two days, today saw Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah granting audiences to MPs to appraise for himself the situation.
From 2.30 pm till 6 pm, His Majesty interviewed 90 out of the 222 MPs and will see the remaining tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was appointed interim prime minister following the collapse of the ruling Pakatan Harapan coalition on Monday, was back at his office in Putrajaya today.
Dr Mahathir shared a photograph of him at his desk on his Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts with the caption “Just another day in the office”.
He also held meetings with leaders of various political parties during the day among them Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman and Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and also former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Meanwhile, the political uncertainty also filtered down to some of the states, especially where PH rules with a slim majority like Johor, Melaka, Kedah and Perak but things are still chugging along as normal.
Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali also chaired a special meeting with secretaries-general from all ministries today to ensure it is business as usual in the civil service.
Even with the latest political developments, all across the country life went on as usual without any “dramas” reported.
In the afternoon, the UMNO-PAS alliance Muafakat Nasional along with MCA, MIC, and PBRS held a joint press conference to say that they preferred that Parliament be dissolved and fresh polls held in the wake of the political developments.
Unlike yesterday, Bursa Malaysia closed on a positive note across the board today as the political uncertainty subsided following several key announcements, including the appointment of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the interim Prime Minister.
