PUTRAJAYA, May 4 — The government is compelling foreign workers in all sectors in Malaysia, including construction, manufacturing and commecial, to undergo COVID-19 swab test in a bid to help curb further spreading of the disease.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the cost for the test would be borne by their respective employers.
“The Ministry of Health (MOH) is planning to start the compulsory swab test in the Federal Territories and Selangor,” he told the daily press conference here today.
Ismail Sabri said the government would promptly close the premises in which positive COVID-19 cases are reported among the workers.
In fact, he said the Works Minister had also closed a construction site in Ampang after it was found to have contributed to the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country for the past two days.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri announced that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Pusat Bandar Utara Kuala Lumpur, Parcel A and B encompassing Jalan 6/3A and 9/3A, as well as the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market, will end today.
He said the EMCO in Parcel C, D, E1, E2, E3 and F, however, has been extended to May 12 upon the advice from the MOH.
The EMCO in Maahad Tahfiz An-Nabawiyyah and one particular house at Batu 23, Kampung Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat, has ended yesterday.
“The EMCO in Menara City One, Malayan Mansion and Selangor Mansion buildings, as well as in Masjid India areas, had also ended yesterday,” the minister added.
