PUTRAJAYA, May 30 — Married couples who are working in different states will be allowed to travel interstate from June 1, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the matter was decided at the Special Ministerial Meeting on the implementation of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) today upon obtaining the advice of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
“Crossing between states is still not allowed except for work, and emergencies such as death or medical treatment,” he told the daily media conference on CMCO here today.
The government had earlier allowed the husband or wife to travel interstate during the CMCO to meet their respective families after obtaining approval from police.
However, in a media conference on May 12, several days before the first day of Aidilfitri, Ismail Sabri said such travel is no longer allowed.
Ismail Sabri said the meeting today also agreed to allow driving schools and institutes as well as the processing of driving licence by the Road Transport Department (RTD) to operate from 8 am to 4 pm from June 1.
He said RTD had also set the standard operating procedure (SOP) in line with the stipulations of the Health Ministry and the National Security Council (NSC).
“Among them, are temperature check, disinfecting the interior and exterior of the vehicle before and after lesson, observing social distancing between the learner and instructor and wearing face mask,” he explained.
Asked on the move by night clubs in carrying out promotions on Instagram, Ismail Sabri stressed that night clubs are still not allowed to operate for the time being.
“Such premises which are opened would be violating the regulation and I hope police and local authorities would take action to ensure night clubs remained closed according to the law,” he said.
On operation compliance, Ismail Sabri said yesterday police detained 114 individuals for CMCO infringements and from the total, 108 were remanded while six were released on bail.
Apart from that, he said 471 individuals were given compounds for CMCO offences with 76 compounds issued at roadblocks and one individual for Aidilfitri visiting violation.
