KUCHING: The Sarawak government has decided to allow all Malaysians to enter the state again starting June 9.

However, state Disaster Management Committee chairman Douglas Uggah Embas said Malaysians from the peninsula, Sabah and Labuan must have undergone Covid-19 tests in their respective states or places three days before entering Sarawak.

Those with overseas travel history but who had been quarantined in the peninsula must also present their release order from the health ministry (annex 17) and test results showing that they had tested negative for Covid-19 before entering the state.

Those with travel history from overseas or transiting from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and entering Sarawak, but have not undergone quarantine, would have to undergo 14 days’ isolation at a hotel.

The cost of the hotel accommodation would be borne by the Sarawak government, he added.

On a related matter, he said Sarawak had also decided to allow childcare centres to operate starting June 9.

He said the state’s welfare, community wellbeing, women, family and childhood development ministry would be engaging operators of childcare centres to explain the finalised standard operating procedures (SOPs) for their operations.

Uggah said since the Covid-19 curve had flattened in the state, the committee was currently refining the SOPs for the opening of recreational parks, barbers, gymnasium fitness centres and photo shops.

“We will be announcing these SOPs soon,” he added.

Earlier, he said no Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the state today. Sarawak has so far seen 552 cases.

“Although Sarawak has not reported any positive case for the last seven days, I urge the people to continue giving their full cooperation and break the Covid-19 transmission chain in the state,” he said.

So far, a total of 17 people have died due to the virus in Sarawak.
