ARAU, June 11 — The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail has decreed for the public to continue with good practices observed during the COVID-19 pandemic so far, such as keeping clean and helping one another.
He said the practice of helping each other regardless of race, religion and political background should continue to be pursued and adopted as the new normal.
“We cannot change Malaysia for our personal interests, but we should change for Malaysia, and practice whatever good that has been done prior to this,” he said during the swearing-in ceremony of state executive council members at Istana Arau today.
Also present at the ceremony was the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also thanked the frontliners for their sacrifice in helping to protect the people’s wellbeing during this period.
“Alhamdulillah, after 65 days of no new cases of COVID-19 (in Perlis) it is hoped that the people of the state will continue to follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government,” he said.
He also urged Muslims to remain patient as currently only those aged 19 to 59 were allowed to pray in congregation at the mosque.
“Be patient as patience is part of the faith. The decision made is in the best interests of the people to prevent this outbreak (COVID-19) and one day, the decision to allow everyone to pray in a congregation will be announced (when the outbreak ends).
“I am proud of the attitude of the people of Perlis for following the SOP set by the government, and this needs to continue,” he said.
Eight Perlis state assemblymen took oath as members of the state executive council today.
