PETALING JAYA, Aug 4: Police have taken action against a total of 80 people so far for breaking home quarantine after returning from abroad, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
He said police and heath officials had conducted 2,078 checks on those still undergoing home quarantine.
Since July 24, however, anyone returning to Malaysia from abroad is no longer allowed to be in quarantine at home and must undergo the 14-day isolation period at quarantine centres.
Ismail said people with disabilities (OKU) registered under the Welfare Department are also eligible to have their quarantine costs exempted, along with students from the B40 group.
“The quarantine costs at all quarantine centres are the same, whether in hotels or public training institutes,” he said.
Ismail said police detained 104 people yesterday for flouting Covid-19 restrictions. Five were remanded and the remaining 99 fined.
He said 46 people had failed to comply with various SOPs, 53 participated in activities that made social distancing difficult, one had breached their quarantine order, while four were caught after their business premise exceeded operation hours.
Five individuals people were detained for immigration offences yesterday, as part of operations against illegal immigration.
