WASHINGTON, Aug 8 — U.S. President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Friday agreed to provide immediate aid to the Lebanese people, Xinhua news agency reported.
The two leaders in a phone conversation expressed their deep sadness over the loss of life and devastation in Beirut. They agreed to work together with international partners to provide immediate aid to the Lebanese people, the White House said in a statement.
U.S. Air Forces Central Command tweeted earlier in the day that two loads of humanitarian aid supplies had been delivered to Beirut.
Macron said Thursday in his visit to Lebanon that France had already sent support to Lebanon and it would send more medical equipment in the coming days.
Two massive explosions rocked the Port of Beirut on Tuesday evening, killing at least 154 people and injuring about 5,000 others while causing massive damages in the city.
