PETALING JAYA, Aug 19: A total of 140 people were arrested yesterday for breaching the recovery movement control order (RMCO), Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement today.
Of the total, he said, 136 were issued compounds while four were remanded.
The offences included not recording the particulars of guests, not wearing face masks, failure to pay quarantine centre fees, not wearing disposable aprons and taking part in activities that made physical distancing difficult.
Ismail said 17,401 personnel from 4,981 task force teams were deployed to monitor compliance with the SOPs. Checks were conducted at 4,229 supermarkets, 5,473 restaurants, 1,747 hawker stalls, 1,781 factories, 3,842 banks and 1,063 government offices.
Also monitored were 1,676 land transport terminals, 315 water transports terminals and 103 air transport terminals.
As part of the ongoing Ops Benteng, police set up 64 roadblocks across the nation and inspected 25,458 vehicles to stop illegal immigrants from entering. Two foreigners were detained for flouting immigration laws.
Meanwhile, Ismail said 12,926 individuals arrived through the country’s entry points from July 24 to yesterday, and were sent to 66 quarantine facilities.
He also said police conducted 401 checks on those undergoing the mandatory home quarantine.
