PUTRAJAYA, Sept 4 — Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah today emphasised the importance of 3W – “warisan, wawasan, kewiraan” (heritage, vision, heroism) – that the people need to uphold in making Malaysia a developed country.

When launching the “Tanjak Merdeka” programme at the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) here, Saifuddin said the development of the country must have a balance between the values of tradition, science, technology and innovation.

“There must be a balance in making this country a developed one with all forms of the latest technology but it must be rooted in a strong axis and among them the tradition and heritage of the nation,” he told reporters at the programme which was held in conjunction with National Day and Malaysia Day 2020 celebrations.

The Tanjak Merdeka programme, jointly organised by the ministry and the Consortium of the Malaysian Music Recording Industry (IRAMA) exhibits a wide range of headdress worn by Malay Rulers.

Among them tengkolok Sultan Kedah, tanjak Perak (tengkolok Ayam Patah Kepak), tanjak Pahang (tanjak Lang Menyongsong Angin), tanjak Selangor (Setanjak balung Raja) and tanjak Perlis (tengkolok Dendam Tak Sudah).

Saifuddin said the Tanjak Merdeka programme was significant for the community to understand 3W which is the soul of heritage, the face of vision which is the window to the future and the heroic steps taken by the people.

He said the programme is aimed at fostering the spirit Merdeka and strengthening relationships among ministry staff through leisure activities.
