KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today denied having called 50 farmers in its probe over the alleged trespassing of state land in Raub, Pahang, into durian orchards.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the commission had never called any farmers for questioning over the case.
“What I can confirm so far is that MACC has opened an investigation paper on the case,” he told repoprters after a forum on Corporate Liability here today.
Azam said the commission would look into the case to to see if there was any issues on corruption or power abuse,” he added.
On Sept 2, Bernama reported that Azam Baki had directed the Pahang MACC to obtain further information from the Raub District and Land Office, as well as the Pahang State Secretary’s Office regarding the matter.
On Aug 1, the Pahang government began taking stern action against farmers who allegedly cultivated durian plantations around Raub illegally on state government land.
In another development, Azam said the commission had opened an investigation paper on the pollution in Sungai Gong in Rawang.
“We are looking at several issues that are under our jurisdiction and I would like to say that MACC is not the only one investigating this case, but also the police and other authorities,” he added.
On the report from the Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (PUTRA) in Ipoh regarding an issue of a land scandal in Perak, following a letter titled ‘Karam letter’ that was spread through social media recently, Azmi said the commission had also opened an investigation paper on it.
