KUCHING, Sept 25 — The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs) is leaving it to the government to determine the bonus amount to be given to the 1.62 million civil servants, when tabling the 2021 Budget on Nov 6.
Its president, Adnan Mat today said Cuepacs had given its views on the budget to the Ministry of Finance yesterday and normally, Cuepacs would request that bonus to be paid to civil servants each time before the budget is presented.
“Previously we have asked for three months’ bonus but we only received RM500. So this time we leave it to the government to decide.
“What’s important is that Cuepacs has voiced the need to give civil servants a bonus after they have carried out their duties well, regardless, the change in government in May 2018 and February this year,” he told reporters after presenting certificates of appreciation to COVID-19 frontliners here.
Adnan said in tabling the budget, Cuepacs had also urged for the new minimum wage to be implemented next year.
Cuepacs had also appealed that vacancies for the positions of environmental health officers and assistant officers which are frontline positions, be filled as soon as possible.
“This is important because they are in the frontline but the positions are slowly decreasing, be it in the Ministry of Health, municipal councils or district councils,” he said.
He said as Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced that there will not be any reduction in the size of the civil service, the Public Service Department (PSD) should revoke their earlier directive in urging department heads to reduce their staff.
