PETALING JAYA,Oct 19: Odour pollution in Sungai Selangor has forced four water treatment plants to shut down, says the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS).
In a Facebook post, LUAS says the Rantau Panjang, SSP1, SSP2 and SSP3 treatment plants were shut down from 12.30am to 2am.
“LUAS and other parties are investigating and taking mitigating measures,” it said.
Air Selangor said the latest pollution will affect 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat, disrupting supply to 1.19 million users.
It said “flushing” activities have been carried out to reduce pollution levels of the river, which remains at 1 threshold odour number (TON).
The latest disruption has further delayed restoration of supply to those affected by a burst pipe at the SSP1 water treatment plant.
“Air Selangor has mobilised water tankers to affected areas with priority given to critical premises including hospitals and dialysis centres,” it said.
Early last month, pollution in Sungai Gong, a tributary of Sungai Selangor, caused unscheduled water cuts for several days, affecting nearly 1.2 million households in 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley.
