KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) detained an Indonesian fishing boat for encroaching Malaysian waters while on patrol in the Straits of Melaka yesterday.
RMN West Armada Command Base Strategic Communications Department in a statement said a check by Kapal Diraja (KD) Laksamana Tan Pusmah showed that the boat was manned by four Indonesians.
“KD Laksamana Tan Pusmah that detected the boat in the Straits of Melaka some 60 nautical miles west of Langkawi also found the boat had suffered engine damage and was in Malaysian waters since yesterday.
“KD Laksamana Tan Pusmah monitored the boat till repairs were completed and escorted the boat from the Malaysian Maritime Zone,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the Navy would always curb any activities that violated maritime law to stop the spread of COVID-19 by illegal immigrants travelling by sea.
“Navy assets are not only involved in Ops Benteng Laut but also Ops Pejarak to protect our country’s waters and sovereignty,” it said.
