MELAKA, Dec 24 — The installation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) smart meters in Melaka is expected to be completed in the next six months, said Melaka TNB customer service chief Ir Khairizam Ibrahim.
Khairizam said currently the progress of installation has reached 91 per cent, involving 314,000 customer accounts, with the remaining 46,000 accounts expected to be replaced with smart meters within the time period.
“I urge customers to cooperate with the TNB installation team assigned to install the smart meters so that they will be able to benefit from the use of the new devices.
“The most significant benefit is that customers are able see the daily electricity use through the mytnb app using their smartphones and control the use of electricity at home,” he told reporters after a meet and greet session with members of the media in Melaka today.
He said Melaka TNB was not severely affected based on customer feedback throughout the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) from March till June which witnessed a rash of high electricity bills.
“In other states, TNB did not allow direct meter readings from house to house during MCO, but in Melaka, due to the smart meters, customers were able get accurate meter readings, so there were no issues related to high electricity bills caused by estimated billing methods in this state,” he said.
