PASIR SALAK, Dec 26 — The Perak state government has allocated RM465,000 for the ‘2021 Seronok ke Sekolah’ (It’s Fun to Go School) programme to help primary and secondary school students from less fortunate families to prepare for the next schooling session.
State Women Development, Family, Social Welfare and NGO Committee chairman Datuk Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Noordin said about 3,100 school students would benefit from the allocation.
Dr Wan Norashikin said the committee, in collaboration with the Perak Social Welfare Department (SWD) and Majlis Masyarakat Penyayang Negeri Perak would select 50 children from less fortunate families or orphans from each of the 59 state assemblies in the state to receive the assistance.
“The items including shirts, scarves, shoes, socks, and school bags are given to selected students where the assistance is being delivered starting today until Jan 16, and is managed by SWD and the respective district offices.
“This school supplies assistance will to some extent, alleviate the burden of underprivileged families, especially as many people have lost their jobs or income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while it will also encourage students to improve their academic performance,” she said.
She was speaking to reporters after the ‘Seronok ke Sekolah 2021′ programme was officiated by Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman at a supermarket here today.
Meanwhile, Dr Wan Norashikin, who is also the Kampung Gajah assemblyman, said the committee would study in detail the provision of free face masks to every student in the state, depending on the financial capability of the state government.
