SINGAPORE ,Jan 21 – Singapore will progressively roll out compulsory Covid-19 screening using the Antigen Rapid Test (ART) at its Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints for cargo drivers and accompanying personnel entering the republic starting 9am tomorrow.

The Trade and Industry Ministry said the new border-control measure is aimed at managing the growing risk of imported infections.

“Tested drivers and personnel with a negative result may proceed to enter Singapore,” it said on its website today.

As cargo drivers and accompanying personnel may have interactions with the local community in Singapore, the on-arrival ART will allow authorities to identify potential Covid-19 cases, it said.

“This will add to the safeguards to ensure public health in Singapore, as well as that of the community of cargo drivers and accompanying personnel.”

The ministry said it recognises the importance of ensuring the smooth passage of goods between the republic and Malaysia, and values the important role played by cargo drivers.

“We will ensure smooth operations at the checkpoints to minimise disruption to deliveries and supply chains. Businesses expecting deliveries are encouraged to maintain close communication with their logistics providers and prepare for possible delays.

“Businesses, and cargo drivers and accompanying personnel must continue to abide by safety management measures, including contactless delivery, wearing masks, and practising safe distancing.”
