PETALING JAYA, Jan 22: Another Umno leader has called for party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign, saying his weak leadership has caused “havoc” among members.
Paya Besar, Kuantan, division chief Ahmad Tajuddin Sulaiman said the leadership crisis within the party, especially among Supreme Council members, has been going on for a long time since the 14th general election (GE14) without any effort from Zahid to resolve it.
He said the disarray among the Supreme Council members and the party’s MPs could cause supporters to lose confidence in the party.
“Unclear direction and weak leadership will cause its 3.6 million members to lose their will to fight for the party,” he said in a statement today.
Tajuddin said court charges faced by several Umno leaders also made it harder for the party to rise again and wrest power in the next general election.
“Therefore, for the sake of the Malays and interests of party members, Zahid must step down from the top party post,” he added.
Previously, two youth leaders from Johor and Negeri Sembilan had also asked Zahid to resign.
Pontian youth chief Mohd Helmi Buang said the party needed new leaders, and Seremban youth chief Zool Amali Hussin supported the call.
