PETALING JAYA,Feb 3: Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will travel to Indonesia tomorrow for a one-day official visit, the foreign ministry announced today.
In a statement, the ministry said a small delegation, including foreign affairs minister Hishammuddin Hussein and several senior government officials, will accompany the prime minister on this lightning visit that is scheduled to take less than 24 hours.
“There are several matters involving the interests of both countries which require further discussion and mutual understanding including important issues such as economic cooperation, regional and bilateral security, as well as joint efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Thus, leaders of both countries have agreed to have a face-to-face meeting,” the statement said.
According to the foreign affairs ministry, the trip will include Muhyiddin meeting Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Istana Merdeka, Jakarta and attending prayers together on Friday morning.
This will be followed by a luncheon before the prime minister and his Malaysian delegation return home to undergo mandatory quarantine.
The statement added that both leaders are expected to discuss matters on discrimination against Malaysian and Indonesian palm oil, the Reciprocal Green Lane scheme, Covid-19 vaccine practices as well as trade and investment efforts, including the involvement of Malaysian businesses in helping Indonesia relocate its capital to East Kalimantan.
It said the visit will be subject to Covid-19 standard operating procedures as agreed by the National Security Council as well as the Malaysian and Indonesian health ministries.
This includes the Malaysian delegation travelling in a “special aircraft” to create a travel bubble, and taking swab tests before and after arriving in Jakarta. They will also be prohibited from travelling anywhere except designated areas as part of the official visit.
