PETALING JAYA,Feb 16: Private hospitals across the country say they are ready to work with the government in vaccinating the public to speed up the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Association of Private Hospitals of Malaysia (APHM) president Dr Kuljit Singh said the group was waiting to discuss the mechanism of the programme as “many would be happy to be vaccinated in private hospitals”.
“It is a service we can provide for the public. However, we are waiting for further instructions,” he said in a statement.
Kuljit said APHM was grateful for Putrajaya’s decision to vaccinate healthcare workers in private hospitals simultaneously with government workers, adding that it would work closely with the government to ensure all frontliners in the health sector were covered.
He also urged all citizens who were suitable to receive the vaccine to register themselves for the jab.
Previously, Khairy Jamaluddin, the coordinating minister for the immunisation programme, had announced that the vaccine registration would kick-off next month, with five ways for the public to sign up.
The science, technology and innovation minister said the registration will make it easier to fix appointments for the thousands who will be vaccinated each day.
According to health minister Dr Adham Baba, some 126,000 people would be vaccinated per day at 600 locations nationwide.
Seven officers will be present at each of the locations to conduct the inoculations. Foreign citizens living in Malaysia, including undocumented foreigners, would also be vaccinated for free.
