PETALING JAYA,Feb 16: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has brushed aside claims the party has lost its direction, saying its main aim is to strengthen Barisan Nasional for the next general election.
“Some have raised questions as if Umno has no direction. (Or) what is the Umno president doing? Where does Umno want to go from here?
“I understand their anxiety. Therefore, today I assure you that Umno has a clear direction,” he said in a Facebook posting.
The Bagan Datuk MP said he wants to strengthen ties with any party “who sincerely wants to work with Barisan Nasional”.
Saying he understands a party’s direction is tied to strategies, he added: “I give my assurance that Umno has the necessary strategies.”
However, Zahid said, they will no longer be strategies “if the opposition are aware of our next move”.
“Umno’s strategies are not static or rigid,” he said, adding that it needs the SWOT analysis – strategic planning techniques to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, including the wishes of grassroots.
He said he is disappointed with anti-Umno statements, as raised over social media, but gave an assurance Umno’s strategies are good for the party and Malaysia.
