KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 — Malaysians in the United States have been told to adhere to the guidelines and warnings on hazardous and slippery conditions issued by the local authorities following extreme weather conditions in several areas there.
The Malaysian Embassy in the United States (US) in a statement emailed to Bernama said it had advised Malaysians in the areas hit to take extra caution and pre-plan activities based on the guidelines, which differ from place to place.
“Thus far, the Embassy has not received any request for assistance from Malaysian citizens following the severe weather in several areas in US.
“To date, we have not received reports of Malaysians being trapped or have gone missing due to the extreme weather conditions,” the embassy said in the statement.
The embassy added that from the information gathered, Malaysians in the US have been following guidelines issued by the relevant local authorities in the respective states in which they reside.
The statement was issued in response to a winter storm which has affected areas from the south central to the East Coast of US, including Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia as well as the District of Columbia where the US capital Washington is located.
The extreme weather has caused temperatures to drop to below freezing levels in some states.
