KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — Political stability, creating a conducive investment climate and the implementation of good governance are important prerequisites for attracting more investments into Malaysia, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia could not afford to lag behind in the process of reviving the world economy and attracting more foreign investors as it steps up efforts to revitalise economic growth and create job and business opportunities for the people.
“Perikatan Nasional (PN) plays an important role in creating political stability, preserving harmony and unity among the various races in a complex society, and upholding the principle of good governance and rule of law.
“These are among the important factors which will attract more investors to place their capital in this country because they feel more confident that their investments are safe and guaranteed. These are the basic principles for the establishment of Perikatan Nasional,” he said.
He said this when opening the 49th Gerakan national delegates’ conference virtually at Menara PGRM here today.
Gerakan advisor Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai and deputy president Oh Tong Keong were among those present in person at the opening ceremony at Menara PGRM, while others attended virtually.
Muhyiddin, who is PN chairman, reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguard the people’s interests, saying measures taken in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic were to protect them from this unprecedented crisis and were not politically motivated.
“We have delivered on our promises to the people. The government functions by managing the country’s administration with full integrity and trust, putting into practice the principle of a Prihatin Rakyat government with the implementation of economic stimulus packages worth RM320 billion in the past one year to safeguard the people’s welfare and ensure business continuity,” he said.
“This is the continuing commitment of the Perikatan Nasional government, implemented now and in the future,” he added.
Muhyiddin also urged members of PN component parties to reach out to the people and extend aid provided by the government to help those in need.
