Kuala Lumpur April 13 — The Covid-19 vaccine supply will begin to exceed registrations by June, science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin projected today.
In a Twitter post, Khairy included a graph from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) showing the scheduled delivery of the vaccines compared to the total number of registrations so far.
“This is the projection for Malaysia’s cumulative vaccine deliveries. We project that supply will be in excess of demand from June onwards.
“This will mean faster vaccination rates. Current deliveries (are) still slow, largely due to the stark vaccine inequity of advanced countries as condemned by WHO (World Health Organization) and UN (United Nations),” he said.
Khairy, who is the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister, said Malaysia would have sufficient vaccine supply to cover 80% of the population by October.
“The green line is the delivery schedule of all the vaccines that Malaysia has obtained. The yellow line is the status of vaccine registrations now. The light blue line is the programme’s target,” he said.
As of yesterday, Malaysia has administered a total of 1,018,937 vaccine doses in the first phase of the programme, comprising 609,153 first doses and 409,784 second doses.
In a separate Twitter post, health minister Dr Adham Baba said a total of 8,602,156 individuals have registered for the programme so far.
