KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Two Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC) students managed to obtain top 10 spots at the March 2021 ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) examinations.
MyPAC in a statement today said, the two students are Nurul Fatin Nabihah Hamdan, 25, and Siti Naziah Mohamad Nazid, 21, who are from the B40 family and were among 92,000 candidates across the globe who sat for the March 2021 examination.
Nurul Fatin Nabihah managed to obtain first place in Malaysia and seventh in the world for the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) paper. She graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) from Universiti Teknologi MARA, said the statement.
The statement said she decided to pursue the professional accountancy qualification to increase her probability of securing a job. With MyPAC’s assistance, she managed to obtain a full scholarship from Yayasan Sime Darby and started her ACCA programme in September 2020.
Due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), Nurul Fatin Nabihah has to continue her studies at home in Terengganu.
Equipped with only her mobile phone she managed to also pass another paper which is Advanced Taxation (ATX) in the same examination and has two more papers to complete at the “Strategic Professional” level and is expected to complete her ACCA qualification in September, the statement read.
Meanwhile, MyPAC said Siti Naziah managed to obtain first place in Malaysia and ninth in the world for the Audit and Assurance (AA) paper and started to seriously consider career opportunities as a professional accountant after attending MyPAC’s briefing session at the Mara Junior Science College in Kuala Kangsar.
Studying at home in Perak during the MCO was a challenge to Naziah as she kept failing the tests given by the lecturer and almost gave up.
However, motivation and advice from her best friend and the counsellor at MyPAC motivated her to focus until she passes the paper and obtained the highest mark in the country.
Siti Naziah has to complete four more papers and is expected to complete her ACCA qualification in March 2022, the statement added.
MyPAC chief executive officer Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan regarded the success of these students from the B40 and asnaf families, as a real testament that, given the right opportunity and guidance, people from this group can succeed in obtaining a professional qualification.
She said MyPAC will continue working closely with various corporations and zakat authorities to select and fund deserving students from underprivileged families to pursue professional accountancy qualifications such as ACCA in the effort to increase the number of Bumiputera professional accountants.
Zaiton said, MyPAC also attributed its success to the support received from the Ministry of Finance since 2018.
“The Ministry of Finance’s confidence in MyPAC has encouraged us to step up the effort in increasing the number of Bumiputera professional accountants, supporting the nation’s future growth”, she said.
