KOTA BHARU, April 22 — The Kelantan branch of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has issued a total of 68 show-cause notices to chicken sellers who increased prices above the ceiling level.
Kelantan KPDNHEP director Adnan Abd Rahman said the notices were issued from April 14 until yesterday (April 21) to traders who are required to respond within three to seven days.
We give them (traders) a week to answer and explain why the price of chicken sold was not the same as the market price. If they fail to respond and submit complete documents against the notice, then they will be compounded,” he said.
Adnan told reporters after the Maximum Price Control Scheme walkabout for Hari Raya Puasa at the Mydin Kubang Kerian Supermarket, here, today.
Elaborating further, Adnan said a total of 141 enforcers and 92 price monitoring officers will be sent to each location to ensure that the traders involved did not arbitrarily raise prices.
“We are monitoring to ensure that traders do not take advantage of prices as some of them have also been be known to increase prices ahead of the festive season.
“We hope the public can channel information on price increases of goods for further action. Efforts by all parties are necessary to ensure the prices of basic necessities are under control,” he added.
