KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — Malaysia and Singapore have reaffirmed their bilateral commitment on defence cooperation under ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA).

According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry today, both Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his Singapore counterpart, Dr Ng Eng Hen also discussed matters related to the dynamics of regional security environments including South China Sea during their video conference call held today.

“Ismail Sabri highlighted the need for non-militarisation and self-restraint in South China Sea to ensure peace, security and stability in the region.

“In addressing common security threats, both ministers also emphasised on strengthening cooperation in cyber security and information sharing between the armed forces of the two countries,” the statement read.

The statement said both ministers are looking forward to Malaysia’s hosting of the 11th FPDA Defence Ministers’ Meeting (FDMM) which also coincides with FPDA’s 50th Anniversary.

They also acknowledged the importance of continuous active engagements through conducting exercises such as BERSAMA LIMA 21 and SUMAN WARRIOR 21.
