TAIPING, July 28 — Over 50,000 industrial workers in Perak will be vaccinated by mid-August under the Public-Private Partnership COVID-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS).

According to state Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya today, the opening of several more PIKAS vaccination centres has been approved.

“The additional PIKAS centres will help increase the number of vaccine recipients in Perak,” he told Bernama when visiting the PIKAS centre at St Louis Hall here on its first day of operations.

In a statement, Shahrul said three additional PIKAS centres were approved in several districts and would begin operations in stages starting July 30.

“Dinding Poultry Processing Sdn Bhd in Lumut will begin operating on July 30, with Toyo Tires (M) Sdn Bhd, Kamunting on Aug 3 and MFM Group Batu 859 Undan, Setiawan on Aug 5,” he said.

Perak had previously opened three centres, at the Proton industrial sports complex on July 12, and Casuarina Meru Hotel and Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd on July 21.

St Louis Hall PIKAS vaccination centre director Eric Ho said they are targeting to administer 1,600 doses daily for industrial workers in the state, especially in Larut Matang and Selama districts.
