KOTA KINABALU, Aug 18 — Close contact screening remains the main contributor to daily cases in Sabah, with 1,410 cases, or 58.4 per cent, of the total 2,413 cases recorded in the state today, said state Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun.
Masidi, who is also the state government’s official spokesperson on COVID-19, said symptomatic screening recorded 538 cases, or 12.3 per cent, and from the existing cluster screening, 233 cases (9.6 per cent) were reported.
He said that 1,363 patients, or 56.5 per cent, of the cases reported today were category 2 patients, while 1,026 people, or 42.5 per cent, were from category 1, followed by those in category 3 (11), category 4 (3) and the rest were in category 5.
“New cases in Sabah continue to increase, to 2,413 cases compared with 2,103 reported yesterday,” he said in a statement tonight.
Masidi said that a new cluster was also recorded today, namely the Sungai Pin Cluster in Kinabatangan, a workplace cluster involving 20 cases of infection.
“The index case is a 52-year-old female worker, an Indonesian citizen, in an oil palm plantation near Sungai Pin, in Kinabatangan district.
“After having symptoms since Aug 10, the index case was then confirmed positive for COVID-19 (RTK-Ag) at the Batu Putih Health Clinic, Kinabatangan, and referred to Kinabatangan Hospital for further treatment,” he said.
