KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 6 —  The temporary closure of Primula Beach Hotel due to COVID-19 would not impact the tourism sector in the state.

Terengganu Tourism, Culture and Digital Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said local tourists can still opt to stay at other hotels and resorts subject to strict compliance to the existing standard operating procedures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“Local tourists should not panic over the news of the hotel’s temporary closure as it is a common procedure to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“The temporary 14-day closure is to facilitate sanitation work after 29 positive COVID-19 cases were detected among the hotel workers,” he told Bernama when contacted today.

Yesterday, Kuala Terengganu District Health Office (PKDKT) issued a closure notice for Primula Beach Hotel from Sept 5 to Sept 18 under Section 18 (1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s general manager Suaibah Harun when contacted said 109 other employees of the hotel will undergo the COVID-19 swab tests today.

“PKDKT has instructed the closure of the hotel’s one of the four kitchens and one of the four restaurants from Aug 29 after taking into account risk assessments from the first COVID-19 case reported previously,” she added.
