IPOH, Sept 20 — Perak Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) has successfully planted 75,000 trees throughout the state from November last year until now.
Its chief executive officer, Anuar Zainal Abidin, said the effort was carried out through its stay green initiative, in collaboration with 50 agencies and departments, institutions of higher learning and various parties.
They include the state Education Department, State Forestry Department, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Teknologi Petronas and non -governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Sahabat Alam Malaysia and the Sahabat Alam Activist Association.
“We also work with the Orang Asli community through this programme, where a total of 9,620 coffee trees are planted in several Orang Asli villages, namely in Kampung Air Bah, Kampung Asu Hulu Perak and Kampung Kerawat.
“All the villagers have been given appropriate planting and tree care training, in an effort to preserve the environment as well as to provide income opportunities to the Orang Asli,” he said at a press conference here today.
He said among the trees planted were mangrove trees, as well as berembang and ketapang trees, which could prevent erosion at the river bank.
He added that MB Inc welcomed more parties to come forward to work together in tree planting efforts to intensify initiatives in preserving the environment.
