PUTRAJAYA, Sept 30 — The Risk and Crisis Communication Module For IPT will become a reference for institutions of higher learning (IPT) for the effective management of risks and crises in the future, said Minister of Higher Education (MOHE) Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.
She said the module was developed based on findings of a research grant for Risk Communication for Public Health.
She said the module would assist IPT to be prepared in managing risks through proactive leadership and strategic planning besides adopting effective communications.
“Regardless of the situation or crisis taking place, the management of risk and crisis communications must be practised effectively,” she said when launching the module virtually today.
Recalling the situation when the country was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic which put IPT in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous situation, Noraini said the crisis helped to speed up the effort of IPT in upgrading its risk and crisis communication skills to ensure the sustainability of the institutions.
Noraini said the module would be beneficial especially before the admission of students in stages from October 15.
The development of the module was funded by Malaysia One Health University Network (MyOHUN) COVID-19 Supplementary Fund and supported by the United States’ International Development Agency (USAID) One Health Workforce Next Generation (OHW-NG).
The project involved various quarters in the process of gathering studies and information from public universities, private institutions of higher learning, polytechnics and community colleges, she said.
It was also produced based on the book Risk and Crisis Communication for Public Health and Institutional Resilience: Insights from Higher Learning Institutions and would be published by Universiti Putra Malaysia Publisher (UPM Press) with the co-operation of MOHE soon.
