The Chinese mainland reported 71 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The National Health Commission said 63 of the cases were detected in Xi’an City of northwestern Shaanxi Province. Local authorities in Xi’an have ordered a lockdown from Thursday to contain the spread. Residents have been urged to stay at home and not leave town unnecessarily.
