IPOH, Dec 22 — The Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad has urged contractors to complete projects of interest to the people such as the construction of schools and hospitals according to the set schedule.

He said the construction of the project should also be based on quality so as not to become a ‘sick project’ and cause inconvenience to the people.

“Once awarded a project, the contractor must complete it according to quality and time,” he said citing houses for the poor, schools and hospitals as examples.

“When they fail, it will affect planning. There are ‘sick projects’ such as the construction of schools in Kerian and a hospital in Parit Buntar which have been stalled for a long time and failed to be completed after a long struggle to demand allocations and approvals,” he said in a press conference after officiating the Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association (PKMM) tonight.

He added if selected contractors fail to complete projects on schedule, it would also tarnish the image of the association itself.

Earlier in his speech, Saarani said the state government hoped all contractors who bid to implement government projects would consider each project as an opportunity for them to show the best implementation performance.

He stressed that this includes maintaining quality, productivity and professionalism and being able to complete the project within the stipulated time.
