PUTRAJAYA, Jan 20 — The Anti-Hopping Bill will be finalised and tabled in the next Parliament session which will begin on Feb 28, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
In a statement today, Wan Junaidi said the decision was reached at the Steering Committee Meeting on Transformation and Political Stability between the government and Pakatan Harapan (PH) yesterday.
“This is also in line with the Prime Minister’s (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob) recommendation to expedite the Bill,” he said.
Prior to this, Wan Junaidi said the Bill would be brought to Parliament in July this year as the formulation of the law required a detailed study as well as a holistic engagement session.
Elaborating, he said the agreement reached at yesterday’s meeting was a commitment of both parties to ensure the various matters agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Transformation and Political Stability between the government and PH signed on Sept 13, 2021 could be implemented.
In the meantime, he said a bipartisan technical committee will be set up under the steering committee and will have four representatives each from the government and PH.
“The technical committee will meet next week to detail out policy matters and the proposed legal framework,” he said.
