KOTA KINABALU, Feb 8  — A total of 99.37 per cent or 2,056 cases out of the 2,069 COVID-19 cases reported in Sabah today are in categories one and two, said state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Masidi, who is also Sabah COVID-19 spokesman, said only five of the new cases are in category three, six in category four and two in category five. Categories one and two are asymptomatic and mild cases.

“The number of sporadic cases continued to increase today to 1,075 or 51.96 per cent of the total cases, a clear indication of how widespread the COVID-19 infection is in the community,” he said in a statement tonight.

He said 408 patients recovered today, 1,659 patients are undergoing treatment, and 42.88 per cent of the total 3,869 beds in various COVID-19 treatment and quarantine centres including hospitals are being utilised.

Masidi said Sabah detected an educational institution cluster today, that is the Jalan Kebulian Cluster in Kota Marudu involving Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kota Marudu with 16 cumulative cases till today.

“The index case is a Form Five female student staying at the school’s hostel who was tested COVID-19 positive on Feb 3. All positive cases are in quarantine and receiving further treatment,” he added.
