KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 — Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has made a RM1.5 million sponsor to the National Welfare Foundation (YKN) for the fourth Better Brighter Anjung Kasih YKN project at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
TNB president and chief executive officer TNB Datuk Baharin Din said the sponsor aims to improve the temporary living facilities at the government hospital, including building upgrades, equipment, and maintenance financing for five years from 2023 to 2028.
“The provision of this facility is among the commitments of TNB in healthcare for the people, especially those from rural areas, and those who cannot afford temporary living space and transportation cost involved in commuting back and forth to the hospital.
“Without such a facility, the relatives of patients would have to rest or sleep beside hospital ward beds or in the lobby, surau, and other areas in hospital premises while they await their family members undergoing treatment in hospital wards,” he said in a statement today.
The sponsor for Anjung Kasih HRPZ II can accommodate 60 people at any one time, he added.
The handing over of cheque ceremony was held on March 17 at the hospital auditorium, attended by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, who is also the chair of Pemegang Amanah YKN.
Also present were the director of HRPZ II Datuk Dr Selasawati Ghazali, CEO of YKN Nordina Haron, and chief executive of TNB Global Business Solutions Ahmad Hushairi Ibrahim.
Previously, TNB, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, sponsored the upgrading of three transit houses, namely Better Brighter Dormitory IJN Foundation at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur (2017); Better Brighter Anjung Kasih YKN @ Hospital Serdang, Selangor (2018) and Better Brighter Anjung Kasih YKN Hospital Melaka (2020).
TNB is the first government-linked company to sponsor the upgrading of transit houses managed by YKN
in government hospitals, part of its caring corporate culture which also looks into areas such as education, socioeconomic, sports, and the environment.
Baharin revealed that in IJN, over 40,000 family members of patients benefited from the initiative while in Hospital Serdang, 800 family members of patients benefited.
He said such efforts are part of TNB’s commitment towards Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
“This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agenda of the United Nations, which states, among others, the need to balance prosperity with the economy, social and the environment,” he said.
