KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 — Netizens today excitedly shared photographs of their legs and other objects which appear to be without shadows following the Afternoon Without Shadow phenomenon being experienced in several areas today.

Captivated by the phenomenon, Mohd Hafidzul Mohd Arif, through a posting on his Facebook said he was willing to stand under the blistering sun to witness for himself the special moment.

“It was thrilling standing and waiting under the sun,” said Mohd Hafidzul who also shared a photograph of his legs which did not have shadows.

Another netizen, Zulkifli Bakar also did not miss out on the opportunity to record the phenomenon by sharing an image of an oil container which did not indicate any shadow.

“No shadow,” he said in the comment column.

The rare phenomenon was experienced by residents in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya at 1.19 pm and in Shah Alam at 1.20 pm.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), in a statement, said the phenomenon was dubbed as such because in the afternoon, the sun would be overhead of every person on the equator rendering them shadowless.

The country would continue to experience the phenomenon in other states on the subsequent dates until the last towns, namely, Kudat and Jamboangan in Sabah on April 7.

The phenomenon was a follow-up to the Equinox which took place last Sunday (March 21) when the sun was exactly on the equator.

During the Equinox, the whole world experienced night and day of the same duration, namely, 12 hours of  day and 12 hours of night, other than indicating the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere.
