KUANTAN, March 30 — A total of 436,910.47 hectares of Malay reserve land (TRM) in Pahang have been gazetted under the Malay Reserves Enactment (ERM) as of last Feb 25,  the State Assembly was told today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said Malay reserve land that are economically strategic and with potential would be developed according to suitability and needs, especially for the local Malay community.

He said this included implementing the People’s Land Scheme (STR) with the objective of further improving the socio-economic status of the Malay community.

“Through this initiative, the state government can also take advantage of the two-pronged strategy where a TRM area is not only developed, but the size can also be increased.

“The TRM area has been increased by 7,814.37 hectares through the implementation of STR. Apart from that, TRM is also developed for housing projects to facilitate home ownership among the Malay community,” he added.

Wan Rosdy said this in response to a question from Datuk Mustapa Long (BN-Padang Tengku) who wanted to know the size of the TRM in the state and the state government’s plans to develop the area.
