KUALA NERANG, April 28 — Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is offering its sponsorship to 1,500 students to pursue their studies abroad this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said the sponsorship programme was offered for the students to continue their studies in various fields and education levels.
“MARA continues to provide sponsorship and scholarships as well as loans to Bumiputera students to pursue their tertiary education in selected fields of studies abroad,” he said.
He said this when met after the Ceria ke Sekolah programme and officiating the Baiti Jannati Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) project as well as the breaking of fast ceremony with Form Six students from three schools, here yesterday.
Asked about the MARA loan repayment, Mahdzir said the agency had no problem with that.
He also said that MARA-sponsored students were not required to work for the agency after completing their studies, instead they were free to choose their career with any company in the country.
Currently, a total of 3,391 MARA-sponsored students are pursuing their studies in 24 countries around the world with 1,422 of them are in the United Kingdom.
At the event, Mahdzir also presented TNB’s Ceria Ke Sekolah aid to 257 Form Six students from three schools in the Padang Terap district.
Meanwhile, two families from Kampung Kuala Tekai, Pedu, received keys to their homes through the TNB Baiti Jannati project.
