ANKARA, July 9 — Most of the Muslim-majority countries around the world will observe the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday starting from Saturday, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

Among these countries are Turkey, Kazakhstan, Jordan, the Gaza city of Palestine, Kosovo and also  the Greek capital city of Athens and the German capital Berlin where Muslims performed special prayers on the first day of the holiday, today.

The holiday commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim, or Abraham, to sacrifice his son at the command of God, before the last-minute divine substitute of a ram.

Muslims sacrifice animals in commemoration of this intervention and share the meat with the poor and their relatives.
