KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) One Stop Centre Committee meeting has agreed that Kebun-kebun Bangsar community farm be coordinated as a partner of Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur (LA21KL).
DBKL said that it follows the decision of the Federal Territory Land Working Committee, which approved a temporary occupancy licence (TOL) to operate on government land under Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) power lines, for the purposes of nursery and gardening, to the mayor of Kuala Lumpur on June 28.
“Today, a meeting chaired by the DBKL executive director (Planning) was held with the Kebun-Kebun Bangsar, stakeholders, representatives of residents’ associations, TNB and the Land and Mines Office.
“Based on the meeting, the Kebun-Kebun Bangsar has been informed of the decision issued by DBKL, namely that the farms are now coordinated under the LA21KL programme as LA21KL urban neighbourhood farm.
“Therefore, activities in the orchard will be monitored by DBKL and related agencies from time to time,” DBKL said in a statement.
DBKL said that Kebun-Kebun Bangsar, located between Jalan Cenderai and Lorong Bukit Pantai 4, Taman Bukit Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, and operating since October 2016, is an exemplary project for gardening activities using TNB’s power lines reserve land, and should be emulated if carried out in accordance with the rules and conditions set.
“Various activities have been carried out to become a successful model garden, visited by various local and foreign delegations besides receiving various grants from Khazanah Nasional and ThinkCity for a good placemaking initiative.
“It has also received support from the media and the public for conducting agricultural education activities for visitors, due to the diversity of crops and herbs,” read the statement.
On June 23, Federal Territory Lands and Mines Department issued an eviction notice against the Kebun-Kebun Bangsar community farm, here, for violating the terms of the TOL for nursery purposes.
