SINGAPORE, July 22 — The Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah appeared resplendent in her traditional Baju Kurung Johor as she accompanied The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on their three-day official visit to Singapore which began on Wednesday (July 20).

The photos of her donning the apparel were shared on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page.

On the first day of the visit, Raja Zarith Sofiah’s Baju Kurung – which was woven by Yayasan Warisan Johor (Johor Heritage Foundation) – was in the colours of the Singapore flag.

She adorned the outfit with a specially commissioned pendant that was designed based on the national flower of Singapore, the Vanda Miss Joaquim.

The brooch Raja Zarith Sofiah wore was gifted to her by The Sultan of Johor includes a design of her Royal Diadem, a crescent moon and seven stars which are references of her cipher as the consort of The Sultan as well as symbols of the Royal Family’s Islamic faith.

For the second day of the visit, Raja Zarith Sofiah’s Baju Kurung Johor was themed in the colours of the Johor state flag.

The floral motifs on the batik are based on the Johor “gambir lada” (gambier and black pepper) design, together with the Singapore’s Vanda Miss Joaquim, which symbolises the close ties between Johor and Singapore.
