KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 — The Community Service Order (CSO), aimed at preventing offenders from repeating criminal offences in the future, is empowered by the application of spiritual values in its implementation, through the launch of its Knowledge and Devotion Programme.
The Social Welfare Department (JKM) said the collaborative programme between the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) via JKM and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is an added value to the existing programme.
“The Community Service Order is a programme aimed at preventing offenders from repeating crimes in the future through an order to perform unpaid community work.
“Up until May this year, a total of 482 trainees comprising 336 youthful offenders, out of which there are 19 adults and 127 juveniles undergoing the CSO,” said JKM in a statement today.
KPWKM Deputy Minister Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof launched the CSO’s Knowledge and Devotion Programme at Masjid Al-Mukhlisin, Alam Damai near here.
Meanwhile, Siti Zailah said in the statement that it is hoped that the programme could be extended to the whole country by improving the variety of activities and involvement of mosques starting this year.
“I hope and believe this programme will encourage the community, especially mosques and its congregation to feel a shared responsibility in shouldering the government’s aspirations as a family in order to give the trainees’ children a better life,” she added.
