KANGAR, Aug 23 — Agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia must become high performance agencies and be more transparent, be liberal in preserving the media and fulfill the aspirations of the people.
Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the administration of government agencies, including the National News Agency of Malaysia (Bernama) must be prepared to listen and not just expect people to listen to what they want to say.
“Listen to the feedback, that to me is an important aspect. We must not condemn anyone for offering their views or criticism although we might not like to listen to such views or opinions.
”My advise to agencies is not to be ultra sensitive with criticism but be open-minded…it is not wrong for us to listen to views or criticism,” he told reporters at the launch of the Tuanku Syed Putra Broadcasting Complex, here today.
Annuar said this when asked to comment on grievances raised by a Bernama TV journalist Sydney Yap Xi Ni through her facebook posting, citing the poor welfare conditions of news reporters, wage cuts, downsizing of news programmes, staff shortages and a bureaucratic hiring process by Bernama.
The minister said the concept of Keluarga Malaysia is to be ready to listen to problems or grievances faced by the people.
Annuar also thanked the Bernama TV journalist for her views and criticism.
“If such shortcomings are true, we will have to rectify or improve because to me the welfare of the staff is very important,” he said.
