ALOR SETAR, Oct 7 — The PAS-led Kedah government today maintained its stand that it will not dissolve the State Assembly this year if the federal government dissolves Parliament soon to make way for the 15th General Election.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said he had conveyed the matter to the Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah during an audience with the Ruler last Tuesday.
“I have informed His Highness that the state government will not dissolve the State Assembly this year, and will only consider dissolving it after March 2023,” he said in his speech when closing the Kota Setar district “Jelajah Kedah Sejahtera programme here today.
Muhammad Sanusi said the decision by the state government was based on the forecast of bad weather and the risk of flooding from this November to March next year by the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
According to him, if the election is held this year, it will make it difficult for people to go out to vote and may make it difficult for security forces, such as the police, to manage security aspects, including monitoring the election process, because of floods.
Prior to this, PAS had made known its stand not to dissolve the state assemblies of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu this year, if Parliament is dissolved this year.
