KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) has reached another milestone in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023, surging to the 401-500 band, from its previous position of 501-600.
With this achievement, UTP has retained its position as Malaysia’s number one private university and successfully placed as second among Malaysian universities and sixth among ASEAN universities.
In a statement, UTP said in the latest rankings, the university has significantly improved its scores for citation.
“The recognition by THE is an accomplishment that we take pride in and we will continue to strive up the rankings,” UTP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said in the statement.
He said the rankings were a further endorsement of UTP’s reputation as a world-leading research and educational institution.
“The results are a reflection of our commitment to fostering a world-class research, teaching environment and student experience that supports our goal to become a sustainable global prominent institution,” he said.
Mohamed Ibrahim said that UTP was truly appreciative of Petronas and the university partners’ unwavering support for the achievement.

We are constantly committed to delivering excellence in academics and research through strategic collaboration with partners across the world, particularly in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
