KUANTAN, Oct 22 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah graced the opening of the National Environment Day 2022 (HASN) celebration here today.
His Majesty was accompanied by Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah and Tengku Panglima Raja Kolonel Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah.
HASN which is celebrated on Oct 21 annually maintained the theme ‘Protecting the Environment, a Shared Responsibility’ with the addition of the slogan ‘Caring for the Environment and the Malaysian Family’.
The Ministry of Environment and Water in a statement called on Malaysians from all walks of life to be ‘eyes and ears’ to help combat activities that damage the environment.
Community participation through nature conservation activities such as tree planting, mutual cooperation related to the environment, reducing the use of single-use plastics as well as educational programmes such as cultivating a sustainable lifestyle is highly encouraged, it said.
In conjunction with the HASN, various activities were organised including a colouring competition, a design competition for recycled materials, the collection of recycled waste, Campaign to Avoid Single-Use Plastics, the launch of a book on Islam and the Environment and the presentation of the 2020 National Level Sustainable School Awards (SLAAS) 2020/2022.
