ALOR SETAR, Oct 27 — The Community Development Department (KEMAS) has produced 493 graduates with Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) and Malaysian Skills Diploma (DPM) certificates this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said the graduates were trainees of the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) programme conducted by KEMAS at its Skills Academy in Seri Iskandar and Gopeng, Perak.
“KEMAS has allocated RM2 million this year for the implementation of TVET certificate and diploma programmes,” he told a press conference after the KEMAS’ 13th Malaysian Skills convocation ceremony here today.
A total of 460 SKM, DKM and Advanced Diploma in Malaysia Skills graduates received their scrolls today.
Also present were KEMAS director-general Ahmad Kamal Idris Mohd Nawawi and the Rural Development Ministry’s secretary (Policy and Strategic Planning) Abdul Kahar Abdullah.
According to Mahdzir, KEMAS TVET focuses on sewing and culinary with the cost of study fully borne by the government .
The students comprise youths from B40 families, he said, adding that KEMAS has also produced a total of 2,400 graduates in various skills since 2007.
