ALOR GAJAH, Nov 2 — UMNO information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan is not expecting Barisan Nasional (BN) to roll out the red carpet for him as a fresh candidate for Alor Gajah in the 15th General Election (GE15).
The prospective BN candidate for the Alor Gajah parliamentary seat said as a newcomer entrusted with the seat, the support and acceptance of the BN Alor Gajah leadership was a reflection of the voters’ sentiment.
“Of course I will discuss with those who are knowledgeable about the political situation here and as an outside candidate, I cannot ask for the red carpet to be rolled out,” he said here today.
He also admitted to the momentous challenge of facing two heavyweight candidates, namely Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof who is the incumbent of the parliamentary seat from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and former Malacca chief minister Adly Zahari (Pakatan Harapan).
The Election Commission (SPR) has set this Saturday (Nov 5) for nomination, Nov 15 for early voting and polling day is on Nov 19.
