KOTA KINABALU, Nov 11 — Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) president Datuk Peter Anthony has confirmed that the independent candidate contesting the Tenom parliamentary seat, Riduan Rubin is joining the party.
Peter said Riduan would contest the 15th General Election (GE15) as an independent candidate, but with the help of the party’s election machinery.
“No logo, flag or any KDM symbol will be used (in Riduan’s campaign) for GE15,” he said when contacted today.
Earlier, photos of Riduan handing over the party’s membership form to Peter were shared on KDM’s official Facebook page, a move that was strongly supported by the party members based on their comments on the page.
Last Saturday, the Election Commission rejected Peter’s nomination papers to contest the seat which led to a commotion outside the nomination centre.
Besides Riduan, other contenders vying for the Tenom seat are the incumbent MP Noorita Sual (Pakatan Harapan (PH)-DAP), Jamawi Jaafar (BN-UMNO), Ukim Buandi (Parti Warisan) and Peggy Chaw Zhi Ting (independent).
Meanwhile, Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin urged Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to take action against Kemabong state assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang from Bersatu, who he claimed was behind his son Riduan’s candidacy in the Tenom constituency and also his entry into KDM.
He said it was a breach of the GRS-BN pact, adding that disciplinary action should be taken against them including terminating their appointment as chairmen or any position in any agency or government-linked company.
